taking part in it and gathering at the start point in Boston at this moment.
I've been following this marathon since school days, and really wish to participate in it some day.

The first African-American woman (US representative) in Congress representation from OH, is said to have died just moments back of brain aneurysm. Her life support system was removed just a few moments ago (it is said 2 hours).
Brain aneurysm is a cerebro-vascular disorder which weakens the wall of a cerebral artery and/or vein causes a localized dilation.
Ms. Jones served as Member of US House of Representatives. A Democratic politician.

US National Hurricane Center, Miami Storm FAY Path Tracking System

The devastating hurricanes in the American continent takes it toll year-on-year.

In yester-years, the one that hit Texas (near Galveston to be precise) was indeed a national concern, as Galveston is an important location (city) given security reasons and energy reserves (particularly to the US Forces) etc.

This year, even with human technological advancements, we are still dependant on nature and wishes/ luck and cross fingers for hurricanes to subside and thereby lessen the losses caused by them.

Predictions lead to precautions and definitely save lives, property losses, suffering etc.

Whether the hurricane closes in on the Miami side coast and comes in the main land and other movements like tornadoes etc., is predicted scientifically by NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration), a part of the US Department of Commerce) --the official US weather, marine, fire and aviation forecasts, warnings, meteorological products, climate forecasts and information about meteorology.

As we further move closer to global warming, higher emissions, irregular worldwide weather patterns, theres an emerging and urgent need to address such changes to particularly avoid human lives and irreparable losses to mankind.

Though this is really a festive season (starting of New Year?) beginning of Spring (northern hemisphere –April), yet the response has been dramatically cool. A few key individuals have offered to meet up and even shown business interests and prospecting.

She revealed a lot in an interview with Oprah in 1992. Betty is a mother of 4 children.

NASA Shuttle Discovery Launch with 7 Astronauts - Cape Canaveral - Florida - Oct 23 '07

October 23 '07 (Tuesday) witnessed the launch of NASA's Space Shuttle Discovery with 7 astronauts aboard from Cape Canaveral - Florida at 1138 hours Eastern (EST).

Just before the launch, a chunk of ice was found near the fuel tank that some officials said could have posed a threat and delay (new schedule of launch). But it melted near the final countdown of the launch.

Pamela Melroy is the Commander in Chief of this mission. And the crew includes an Italian astronaut making his first spaceflight debut - Paolo Nespoli.

The weather conditions were not suitable at the time of launch, as the rain was predicted at that moment in time, however, it improved latter on, and the launch went off fine.

There are at least 11 missions lined up by NASA to complete the ISS (International Space station) by the year 2010. There are several countries involved in this project to Mars and is said to be a 100 billion Dollar worth project!

Firestorms blaze each year in the mountains (even plains et al) in all the continents and cause millions of dollars of worth of losses of property, infrastructure, crops, wood, homes, evacuations, rescue operations, lives and so forth and even affect the flora fauna/ wild life ecologically. A lot of the endangered species are already near extradition – such as only about 5,000 tigers exist worldwide (while their estimated count was near 100,000 a few decades ago!). The recent fires of CA in news are one such daunting example – also contributing to global warming.

The on going/ current fires in Southern California is arguably the most drastic one in this year. About 250,000 people have been urged to flee in California as the fire spreads. The strong winds (mostly from Pacific Ocean side) have been sweeping large areas causing spread of fires, destroying hundreds of establishments, buildings and charring about 270,000 acres of land.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (Governor) has deeply condemned the same and urged fire fighters, and other bodies to work most diligently to over come the further spread. He declared ‘State of Emergency' in seven counties last Sunday.

The wild fires have even scorched parts of San Diego (a densely populated city). Thousands of natives of San Diego have taken shelter in the large Qualcomm Stadium.

Even the animals of The San Diego Wild Animal Park have been evacuated and moved to a safe haven.

These fires will take several days to extinguish.

Lets pray for quick extinction of these fires and recovery to the local community in the area to normalcy.

Viva Laughlin - a drama/ new entertainment/ musical comedy serial on TV by CBS, to start with is about an aspiring entrepreneur, who faces numerous obstacles etc.

Critics say this may turn out to be a flop show, but hey, its too early to determine or make such a comment on.

The premiere of the show was this week - on this Thursday night (on CBS) in US.

It is produced by Peter Bowker and Bob Lowry (creators of BBC's (UK TV) original Blackpool).

It is basically an American version of the BBC's Viva Blackpool and is said to be a combo of
a casino story, a family drama, a musical and a murder mystery is roped in too.

It is also expected to be aired by TV Networks; by Canada's - E!, UK's - Virgin 1 & Living, and Australia's Channel Nine.

The filming location of this drama is Los Angeles CA.

Steven (Stephen) Colbert to run for Prez in South Carolina; Campaign 2008

Steven Colbert, 43 (born 1964 in Charleston) the Comedy Central Show Anchor, announced just Tuesday night that he plans to contest the run for US presidency from SC (State only). His staff approached the SC's both Republican and Democratic parties’ offices (though he is more Democrat) to book and file his seat in the primaries.

Steven also announced this on his Tuesday (pre recorded) Comedy Central Show. He remembered veteran comedian Pat Paulsen who in 1968 announced on the “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” that he’d be contesting for the President as a candidate for the STAG Party.

Steven was named one of the TIME magazines 100 most influential people last year - 2006.

Steve Pederson (Nebraska Athletic Director) Fired by U of NE

The State University of NE has fired its Athletic Director Steve Pederson yesterday after 2 consecutive losses by its school's football team in the popular Big 12 Conference.

He was on a 5 year contract starting 2003.

Nebraska (falling in both CST & MST time zones) has a long history and favorite of winning national titles since 1970ies. But 3 days ago it had a nightmare of loosing very badly to the Oklahoma State (also termed the School's worst defeat).

Even football coach Bill Callahan is said to have been fired. He joined as a Coach to the team in 2004.

A lot of criticism is marked to the AD. AD stands for Athletic Director, a common abbreviation used in the US, and a prestigious position.

Steve is (was) the 12th AD. There is currently an interim AD since he is fired.

Steve has a Bachelor's degree (in Business Administration) from the University of NE and built almost his entire career in this State.
However, he has long and valuable efforts to the sports sector in the State. He began his career at NE as Sports Information Assistant in 1980-81, followed by becoming a football recruiting coordinator from 1982 to 1986; and then returned as the Associate Athletic Director from 1994 - 1996.
He made contributions to the Huskers and managed the refurbishing of the football administrative offices, construction of meeting rooms and so forth.

A Washington Monthly Post (of today 10/16/07) tells the support, endorsement and movement of a top Member at the Evangelist School - Bob Jones University, to power back up Mitt Romney (a Mormon Presidential contestant) for his candidature.

Britannic - Titanic’s Tragic Sister

History calls Britannic ‘the largest liner’ to sink in the Ocean. Its called the larger sister of Titanic and is said to be much larger than the latter. It was discovered in 1976 on an under ocean expedition headed by Jacques Cousteau.

It is considered the “Everest of wreck diving”: The History Channel.

It was on the freezing cold of November 21 1916 when an explosion ripped through the ship and causing it to sink. The cause is still a mystery and undetermined and it is said it could have been a German mine or submarine responsible for the same.

As the famed opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti passed away yesterday (October 12th '07) from pancreatic cancer in Modena Italy (the city of his birth) at 71 years of age, and when it will be difficult for his fans and everyone to cope with this irreparable loss, we have the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 finals (on the lines of American Idols) set to take center stage this weekend.

It would be really appreciated if every one around the world observes a moments' silence and pray to pay condolences to Pavarotti.

In the earlier times, joining a company was literally like getting married to it! Nevertheless, the trend may still be existing in some parts of the world, for example, people are very loyal (and give themselves) to their companies in Japan and often stick around for larger tenures and even life time. But obviously the conditions are different there.

Battle in Seattle - Michelle Rodriguez

Suggested plan of movie for the weekend.

It would be different to watch "Battle in Seattle" at a time when Michelle Rodriguez is in breaking (controversial) news on being sentenced to imprisonment this week.

About the movie: It’s a docu-drama on the WTO riots and protest that were held in November end 1999 in Seattle WA. The Directors of the movie have really made it look like a real life scenario.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Seattle (in real life) to protest the WTO Ministerial Conference.

Though the protest initially started on a low key note, it soon turned irate and resulted in declaration of State of Emergency.

However, there were not bad scenes between the protestors and the National Guard with Seattle Police Department outside the Seattle Conventional Center area.

The protest is believed to be for the anti-globalization movement in the United States and trade negotiations.

The protests and riots lasted 5 days and the head count of demonstrators is said to be around 40,000. Even Starbucks Coffee Houses (famous in Seattle) were shut down along with other shops and restaurants closing down.

November 30th termed as N30 by anti-WTO activists, has indeed left a mark in a day in history.

That’s why it is sometimes referred to as the Battle in Seattle and hence the movie.

Michelle Rodriquez, 29 years of age and TX born, also starring in the movie "The Battle of Seattle" has recently been slapped 180 days imprisonment for probation violation in a hit-and-run case/ drunken driving in June 2004.

Some of her other famous movies are Resident Evil, Fast and the Furious, S.W.A.T.

This reminds of the BMW Hit & Run case in India.

Apollo 7 Manned Mission by NASA on October 11 1968

The Apollo 7 space vehicle was the first manned mission/ human spaceflight by NASA in the Apollo program to be launched on a moon landing mission with number of crew as 3 (namely Donn F. Eisele, Walter M. Schirra and Walter Cunningham).

It was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida on this day in 1968, vis-à-vis, October 11, 1968.

It landed back to Earth on October 22, 1968, therefore about 10 days tour! It made 163 orbits.

The previous mission was Apollo 6 (which had a launch pad fire) and the later Apollo 8, Apollo 10 etc.

The mission featured the first live TV from a manned spacecraft.

Rock Hudson Died of AIDS on this Day

A popular American film and Television actor in the 1950s and 60s, was one of the first major Hollywood celebrities to die of AIDS.

His mother was a telephone operator and Father an Auto mechanic. His Father abandoned the family in the Great Depression period crisis of the 1930s.

Rock Hudson initially served as an aircraft mechanic in Navy in the Philippines and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and applied to the University of Southern California's dramatics program.

He married his agent's secretary Phyllis Gates. And he once quoted "When I count my blessings, my marriage tops the list", however, Gates filed for divorce in April 1958, charging mental cruelty; Hudson did not contest the divorce, and Gates received an alimony of US$250 a week for 10 years.

He not only acted in Hollywood famous movies, but also on TV shows. In July 1985, Hudson joined his old friend Doris Day for the launch of her new TV cable show, Doris Day's Best Friends.
She is said to be a close friend of Hudson and she claimed after his death that she did not know that he was gay, however, Carol Burnett who often worked with Hudson on TV, told an interviewer that she knew about his sexuality and did not care.

He was diagnosed with HIV in June 1984 however, we time elapsed and his popularity started to decline, his Staff and Doctors told public/ media that he was suffering from liver cancer. Only until in 1985 while in Paris for treatment, that Hudson issued a press release announcing that he was dying of AIDS.

He probably did not disclose his AIDS status publicly as thought and believed by most that believed Hudson feared his community would leave him and he would become ostracized in the Hollywood community if they found out the truth about his condition and that he was homosexual.

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in humans.

There is currently no cure for AIDS/ HIV, but treatments for AIDS and HIV exist to decelerate the virus' progression, thereby increasing the life tenure.

Lee Iacocca is said to favor President George Bush for his history of association with his parents/ the Bush family. The terrorist stand of George Bush is a tough one and will take a lot of time (if not life time) to melt down or mellow down.

In the most recent publication, a small private intelligence company called the SITE Intelligence Group, headed by Rita Katz (an Undercover investigator, the Founder and Director of the firm - that monitors, studies, tracks, analyzes international terrorists, their financial operations, funding and other activities) had in advance, claimed and posted out videos of Laden to the Bush Administration.

Rita Katz (Iraqi born and a Jew) is said to have had offered the White House copy of the video FREE of charge so they could take preventive measures/ advance warnings signals of suicide bombings from terrorist groups.

This company, SITE, also monitors the terrorist groups’ web sites and provides latest updates, news information to its subscribers and intelligence agencies.

Rita Katz and her family have lived in Iraq before the execution of her Father in 1969 on spy charges. She was six years of age then (and escaped to Iran later). She also has lived in Israel and speaks a mixture of Hebrew and Arabic. One can read more in her book “Terrorist Hunter”.

To mention, her firm SITE stands for search for International Terrorist Entities Institute.

She has a degree in the Middle East Studies from the famous Tel Aviv University and on completion/ later joined her Mother in a business venture in the manufacture and supply of clothes targeted at the ultra-Orthodox clientele.

She was reluctant to move to the United States earlier on as she being a Jew believed Jews belonged to the Israel. But she and her hubby (a Physician) decided to try the US after the Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by an Israeli in the mid 1990s.

Her firm the SITE is funded by the Federal, federal agencies and a few private institutes that need such information from time-to-time.

Weekends in Gurgaon is time for – calling on/ inviting, jogging, movies, eating, clubbing, barring, golfing, reading, shopping, breaking, cooking, planning, thinking, sporting and chilling out… simply rejuvenating, in the exhaustive number of existing and new Malls, food courts, theaters, restaurants, libraries, sports, swimming pool and Gym facilities; and shopping complexes are of world standards around here or just relaxing at home watching that TV Show, programs, news and/ or movie that you always wanted to catch up with.
And of course one can spend quality time or squeeze and shell out time to reach out to the Gods and go for morning service in the decent number of conveniently spread out religious centers such as Churches, Temples, Mosques, Gurudwaras, Spiritual places et al.
By the way, Gurgaon is known in history as a town that became famous for a temple (called Sheetla Mata) and the name 'Gurgaon' has some background to the same.
I particularly like the Naga Christian Foundation Church where there are people that sing out lovely songs and rhymes to the guitar (more on that another time).

Last week I recommended the movie NameSake starring Karl Penn (named Googol at hospital for immediate discharge registration name (after a famous Russian Author)) to my group, circle and friends. And they did enjoy it - watching the experiences of the migrating couple and their kids; while today (Sunday) I am out to see the listing on the TV.com site for a recommendation and check out for any blockbuster drama.

Dunder Muffin Infinity - The Office

There are a "small child's" handful of satellite TV players in India yet (the media and entertainment market space may still be small and still to pick momentum); to name - TATA Sky TV, Dish TV that air about 225 - 300 channels round the clock. Though the kids' CBeebies (of BBC) telecast closes around 7pm and starts 7am or so (on Sky TV).

However, those who opt to have their own dish set up enjoy many more worldwide channels and have the option to pay for the chosen channels of choice and preference.

It would be great to watch (and a lot is awaited) to see programs/ serials/ dramas like "the Office" that are yet to arrive in India. There are negligible business, work or work related programs to watch as of now, though there are several news channels on business matters such as stocks and futures listings, market watch and so forth.

A US popular drama: the office saw a turn in “Dunder Mifflin Infinity,” in this Thursday’s episode.

Interestingly the audience witnessed a dramatic change in the same, that has caught the
eye of numerous viewers across the continent. In this, Jim & Pam and Dwight & Angela drama, involve Ryan’s surprise return to this Scranton branch, under the Head of Michael’s Superior. "Dunder Mifflin Infinity" is a game in which players become employees of a particular facility/ branch. Branches then compete against each other online. Also, Michael tries to undermine Ryan's attempts at bringing Dunder Mifflin into the digital age.

Wonder where they outsourced their digital, web site etc. needs or did they do the works themselves/ locally at branch level?

Sputnik 1 - Happy 50th Anniversary

Though Sputnik is in history (and Science) books, it created a foundation by Russian scientists in the Space exploration and expedition industry. Today, the world (especially Russia) celebrates and commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the launch of the world's first ever satellite, the Sputnik 1 (by the then USSR), that lay the foundation for other industrialized and developed countries, particularly the United States and so forth to expedite their endeavors in space missions!

This satellite was launched with the aid of a Russian rocket that propelled it to its' path around the Earth. The launching pad is now a part of Kazakhstan (now a break up country of former USSR).

This satellite lived a mere (but good) 3 months and ended by burning up upon re-entering the Earth's space/ atmosphere layer; the cause being the transmitter's batteries giving up.

This was an unmanned mission. The first manned launch was of course of Neil Armstrong in 1961.

I believe Russia now plans to send Astronaut(s) to Mars by 2037 or so. The world is not enough indeed!

LG Voyager or Sony Ericsson Series?

LG Shine (and LG Voyager?) are on billboards and shopping Malls all over town - Gurgaon (Delhi NCR). I was wanting to opt for Sony Ericsson just last week - in keeping with the reputation of Sony brand name and camera, vis-a-vis, best quality image output; and the latest ones are true 3 or 5 mega pixel, and ofcourse the 2 or so + GB storage space and one can download lots of music here! And to add I believe this has optical lense which is quite so better than digital zoom lense. However, I find and notice a lot of ads, and "promise of a new day"! also when I search on Google and other places for reviews, I notice this product is quite feature rich and worth checking out.
I am open to advice as a mind is like a parachute... it works best when its open! Read this in a GM workshop.

A spurt in build up of a number of quality schools of international mark in Gurgaon in the past decade need no mention. One of the firsts was G.D. Goenka, which I believe was founded by Mr. Das (ex Head Head Master of The Lawrence School, Sanawar (Himachal Pradesh)) and the Goenka Group.

Among the latest to commend in play/ pre school is I Bambino under the Board supervision
of Mr. Hari Dang (PadmaShree, Noted educationist, ex-Principal of The Army Public School
in Delhi) among others.

In the early 1990s or late 1980s, when DLF was laying the foundation stone in Gurgaon,
with high quality residential areas like the Garden Estate, and developing other layout
areas/ colonies like DLF phases (I, II, III etc), parents were sending their children to
Delhi for schooling from here. It was indeed a long travel and a burden for children,
and parents had to make their own transport arrangements as most schools' buses were not
pyling (transportation) in Gurgaon. Of course, the DLF Group built their own school
(Summer Fields School, Founded 1987).

While the Govenrment recently laid a rule to the start age of children in India beginning
school at age 5 or so, admissions normally to Class 1st is considered at this age. While
for Pre Nursery/ kindergarten/ creche/ play school about minimum 2.5 years.

Delhi has many established and reputed exclusive girl's schools, like Loreto, Mount
Carmel, but could not find a bit in Gurgaon at a glance. Also, Gurgaon currently lacks
(which is obvious as of now) country or Embassy schools like The British School, American
School, Japanese School (adjacent Vasant Kunj) so on and so forth; which is particularly
good for expats and Diplomat's children. A few 'CD' (Embassy) cars are spotted in Gurgaon
but mostly due to shopping Mall visits, movies et al.

Imagine Elvis Duran (the veteran radio personality) coming on one of Indian Radio FMs stations giving a morning show! Wow, the whole of the work force moving from home to office in traffic would tune in and listen to him in their cars on way to office. Especially on the Delhi - Gurgaon highway stretch. It would make anybody's day special!
While he holds fame with the Miami broadcast on the Y100 and in the NJ and PA States on Max 106.3, since 1996, Indian FM still has a long way to go in recognition of programmes and broadcasters to international standards. All one can recall here is "Sharmaji sey poocha!" (Ask laughter expert Mr. Sharmaji).
Indian FM stations must thrive to reach the global mark. But wouldn't be surprised to see an Indian station associating with Radio Music Awards in time.
Lets hope one of our Radio hosts get a motivation boost from the example of Elvis Duran and making him a Father figure!
The number of radio listeners is ever increasing with more and more traffic jams, swell in the number of vehicles so on and so forth. I bet even house wivies, youngsters would tune in with his vibrancy.
Reminds of the Indian movie "Salam Namaste" most of it shot in Australia where the Actress Preity Zinta is a Radio host.

After-Sales Service in every industry and Service industry (BPO/KPO/Courier/Cargo etc) in general has seen a tremendous boom, efficiency and change for the better in the global market place (in both developing and developed countries) especially in the past decade. Yet there are a lot of catches, hidden costs and customer disappointments. We have lines of 25/7/365 Toll free numbers worldwide with a lot of calls landing in India Contact Centers.

One would argue Companies with best after-sales service will have high volume and revenue growth now and in times to come.

I recently (this week to be precise) had a bad experience with a car product (clutch plate and pressure plate) first replacement for my Opel Corsa. I bought it from an open auto market shop (Palika Bhawan, Opposite Hyatt Regency, New Delhi India) to save time; though my car goes to authorized GM workshop in Gurgaon for service every 10,000 kms (about 6,200 miles) as prescribed by the Auto Company. The Mechanic and the shopkeeper confirmed it was the right one for my car, I paid upfront and the Mechanic opened the belly of the car engine in over 2 hours or so only to find that it won't fit in. For the next 2 hours he struggled with the fitting! I got worried the other parts of the engine may get affected. I came to know that these parts are different for the two variants of Corsa, vis-à-vis, 1.4L and 1.6L engines. When the Mechanic tried to return this item and/or ask for the actual one/ replacement, the Shopkeeper refused and started to argue. The cost of this product is around INR4,275 (about US$110). The Shopkeeper said this is a German item and can't be replaced. The Mechanic went to the extent of advising me to threaten him by saying I would go to the Consumer Court.

I advised the arguing and adamant Shopkeeper its not the money that counts or matters to me, but his attitude/ behavior to customer, and that he rather find a mutually reasonable solution.

Later on the same Mechanic got the right one from another vendor in vicinity and that fitted perfectly in no time. It had the GM mark on it as well. And surprisingly this was cheaper than the former by INR1,000 (US$25). I got the delivery of the car the following day on request of the Mechanic as he went the extra mile by saying he will bear the cost of the loss and responsibility of the car. This heeded me to promise him next business for him by assuring to bring my Mother's Honda that is due for a small visit to the workshop! and recommend friends to take their cars to him. He was prompt to give me a MISSED call from his cell to mine to jot down/ register his # on my cell directly and conveniently! Good salesmanship indeed!

Further, I have sent an email to the original company in Germany (M/s. LuK-Aftermarket Service, P.O. Box 1105, D-63201 Langen) telling them about this product. I feel they should be more specific in detail as to the compatibility mention on the product box itself. Also asking them about their office or distributor address/ contact details (if any!) in India. (By the way, I am very pessimistic on receiving a courtesy reply as I am not a Purchase Manager in an Auto company or a bulk importer!!!).

Gurgaon has a many authorized showrooms/workshops/service centers of most (if not all) manufacturers, such as, Suzuki (Apra Auto, Pasco etc), General Motors (Apex Auto, British Motors), BMW (Bird), Honda (Ring Road Honda), Hyundai (Safdarjung Hyundai, Orion), TATA (Dhingra Motors, Multi Plastics), Toyota (MGF, Galaxy), Ford (Harpreet Ford), Mahindra & Mahindra (Sterling?), Renault, Mitsubishi/ HM (Chanakya Motors), Škoda Auto (Ace Cars), Mercedes Benz (T&T Motors), Volvo (Modi Motors) so on so forth.

So next time you might want to check out the after sales service assurance first before actually buying the product.

Also, its best to get the car serviced on a working day (Monday thru Friday) with prior telephonic appointment to get time, attention and quality service experience to your car (and you or Chauffeur of course), as most workshops are packed and burdened with large number of vehicles load on weekends. Already Gurgaon is experiencing weak infrastructure in the wake of construction of sky rise buildings, complexes, Shopping Malls, flyovers et al. Note: Theres a bee-line at Toyota, GM and TATA workshops on weekends as numerous call center cabs line up here on their off days with their Taveras, Innovas, Qualis', Indicas, as Mon to Fri these vehicles are 'fried' in pick up and drops of about 40,000 odd call center employees that go out each night in Delhi NCR. I was once told by a Driver that many Transporters keep 2 Drivers per car per 12 hours shift and that each vehicle clocks about 300 - 400 kms (186 - 250 miles) per 24 hours! They can't afford to miss the duties (often fined), as that precious toll free call likely from US, UK or ANZ is already in waiting on the dialer or the Davox call routing machine and the employee needs to attend that asap in his computer monitored log in time of 8 hours shift (or he/she would too in turn loose out on monthly incentives)!!!
